Project Lifesaver: Increasing Public Access to Defibrillation
50,000 Lives a Year Depend on It

Cardiac emergencies can happen anywhere to anyone: your daughter as she shops at the mall, a client walking into your office, at church, at the gym, at home.

Wouldn't you want the tools on hand to save a life?

An AED is that life-saving tool.

If someone collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest in your workplace today, would you know what to do? Would your employees know how to increase their co-worker's chance of survival? With each minute of elapsed time before defibrillation, the chances of survival diminish by approximately 10 percent.

The Red Cross is the leading provider of AED training and services. For the cost of a laptop computer, a lifesaving AED machine could be installed in your facility. Companies with AEDs and people trained to use them save lives when every second counts.

The American Red Cross Mid-Michigan Chapter urges you to help us make your community and workplace safer for all of its citizens by increasing AED public access and training so that AEDs become as common as fire extinguishers—an integral part of every emergency response plan. Our vision is to train at least one person in every household in first aid, CPR, and AED. We also hope to ensure that all Americans in emergency situations are within four minutes of an AED and someone who is trained to use it.

But we can’t do this without your support. I challenge you to think about your community, your workplace. Would you know what to do if a family member or friend collapsed in a crowded mall? Would you know what to do if you found a co-worker slumped over in his or her office with no pulse? By the time we are wishing we’d been more prepared, another life could be lost.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how we can work together to implement a program that provides access to defibrillation and training to members of our community please contact me, the Health & Safety Coordinator, Tracy Panich at 517-702-3334.
